Just went to a dermatologist?

I'm a 14 yr old male and today I went to a dermatologist for my acne. She gave my CereVa Hydrating Cleanser with 2 prescribed creams and moistures. She told me that my acne will probably get worse in the 1st month but then get extremely clear. My question is, why does it get worst in the 1st month?
